Over the past two decades, I have worked on two continents in multiple time zones with countless talented editors and writers. Prior to landing in Rome, I was the European Internet correspondent for Reuters in London and, before that, I was the New York bureau chief of The Industry Standard, with a stint in the middle as senior editor of The Industry Standard Europe in London. I've taken this two decades' worth of journalism experience to London to co-launch Custom Communication, a boutique social media consultancy with a twist, one that specialises in quality bespoke publishing. Follow me on Twitter here at @Bernhardwarner and also at @socialinfluence.
Keeping my journalism hat on, I write a daily column for Slate's business site, The Big Money. The column is called Today's Business Press. Previously, I covered the Italian media sector for Variety. I also wrote a weekly column on tech and media for The Times of London and I was one of the early contributors to The Times Online's tech blog, Tech Central. My work has also appeared in Time, Wired and The Guardian.
My journalism career began in the early '90s pounding on doors in seedy neighborhoods looking for quotes and tales to fill the pages of the crime blotter for The New Brunswick Home News, now known, after a confusing string of mergers, as The Home News Tribune.
I have written on just about every conceivable topic from new gadgets to hostage crises, pop stars to pirates, dense EU legislation to an Italian engineer who converts table wine into tractor fuel.
I have also taught a journalism course at John Cabot University here in Rome. Together with my students, we launched an online version of the student newspaper, The Matthew. And, with the help of Nokia, we launched a mobile journalism project that ran during the Spring and Fall semesters of 2008.
